Day 20: The First Day of Spring

The First Day of Spring!
Cast away your wintery fears! Spring is here! It may still be cold and there still may be snow on the ground, but there is hope in your heart! Things can only get better from here!

Day 19: Friends

Friends
Spend time with friends before the busy spring season hits! This will make your winter just that much happier!

Day 18: Decorate for Spring

Decorate for Spring!
Nothing will help you look forward to spring during winter than pretending it's spring in your home! A sure sign of spring is pretty flower blossoms!

Day 17: Clear Night Skies

Clear Night Skies
Did you see the moon out tonight? I don't know about you, but seeing that great beautiful moon lighting up the sky along with the stars sure reminded me of late summer nights! Another thing to be thankful for during our cold winter months!

Day 16: Warmer Temperatures

Warmer Temperatures
We never know when they're going to come, but as we get closer to spring, for sure we can be dreaming or warmer temperatures, and above zero melting!

Day 15: Christmas Music

Christmas Music
I may be out of this world but I love Christmas music at any time of the year. If you happen to share the same interest- be sure to take part in listening to some holidays tunes during the last days of winter! It'll be sure to put a great spirit in you!

Day 14: A Good Book

A Good Book
The Chronicles of Narnia have been my most favorite book/movie series of all time! I'm not really into fantasy novels or anything fiction of that sort, but the Chronicles of Narnia are so unique and interesting. C.S. Lewis, in my opinion, is a brilliant author.

Reading a book of any kind- one that you really enjoy will for sure make winter a cozy time of year!

Day 13: Microfiber Fuzzy Socks

Microfiber Fuzzy Socks
They're too hot for a summer day, but oh so right for a winter one! Wearing a pair of colorful fuzzy socks just brightens (and warms) up my day!

Because they're just socks you don't have to worry about creating a fashion faux pas or watching people run away from your crazy clothing choices. A pair of shoes will cover them up fine- and you'll be the only one that knows they're there!

Fuzzy socks are just another thing that makes my winter a little happier!

Day 10, 11 and 12: Winter Scenery

Day 10, 11 and 12 are combined into 3 photos, but one topic: winter scenery.
Beautiful winter scenery is such a huge part of what makes winter unique, I thought that the topic deserved more than one photograph!

Day 9: Pets

Pets
This blog post is in dedication to my late dog, Cola, whose birthday was yesterday. The dog (Trixie) in the photograph belongs to a friend of mine. I've become quite acquainted with her over the past couple years and every time I come up to the house, she's there greeting me with a great big *smile* and wagging her tale! Pets can make any time of the year so cheerful! Before she became blind and deaf, Cola would so much enjoy the winter months. She loved snow! She made playing in the snow so fun-we practically forgot about the cold. We laughed so many times as she would try and catch snow balls in the air with her mouth. I love her so much, words cannot even express.

If you have a dog, cat, or any other pet- don't take them for granted. Give them all the affection you possibly can.

"There are no bad dogs, only bad people."

Day 8: Winter Olympic Mittens

Winter Olympic Mittens
Don't underestimate the warmth of these adorable knit mittens! Not only do they inspire a feeling of national pride, but they also are surprisingly warm on cold days like today!

Accessorizing during winter with the colors and textures that you love is a little something that brings positivity into the cold winter months!

Day 7: The Snow that Glitters

The Snow that Glitters
Can't get any closer to fairyland than this! The most beautiful thing happens when the sun hits each snowflake at just the right angle. It creates a winter wonderland- glittering snow just perfect for putting a sparkle in our eyes during winter!

Day 6: Icicles- Winter's Jewels

Icicles- Winter's Jewels
They're gorgeous when exposed to sunlight and such a pretty accessory to winter! Why wouldn't icicles bring a positive light to our winters?!

Day 5: Blue Skies

Blue Skies
Nothing says a beautiful day and a reason to be positive like when the sun is out and there's a beautiful blue sky. Enough said!

Day 4: Winter Birds

Winter Birds

During the summer months I always look forward to being woken by the birds. There may not be many others out there like me, but I particularly love the sound of the birds around here. I'm so happy that on warm days like this one that the birds are visible and can still be heard! They're a gentle and precious addition to a bitter winter here up in the north! Another wonderful reason to stay positive as we endure the 7 months of cold!

Day 3: Candle Light

Candle Light
Sorry! It's late today, but better late than never!
In northern Alberta, we're blessed with short winter days. And when we're challenged with these short days, always with a challenge comes an opportunity. I absolutely love candles! I know, it seems like a theme going on for the past few days- hot chocolate, lotion, candles... but I promise there will be more of the outdoor variety!
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, take the opportunity to treat yourself with candle light! It's calming, and very beautiful on a winter night... especially if you belong to a household without a fireplace! It's sweet and short, mostly because I'm crunched for time today.
All in all, candles are a wonderful escape in the cold realities of winter and they're one of my favorite parts of the darker parts of the year!

Day 2: Vanilla Spice Body Lotion

Vanilla Spice Body Lotion
by Time & Again
It's by far the richest, most calming lotion I've ever experienced. Everything good about the vanilla bean, spice and shea butter packed into one precious package. It smells like heavenly love!

Most women can agree that along with the long winter months come dry, dry, dry skin! Hand and body lotions are another comforting solution to the winter blues that I absolutely love.

Allow yourself to wake up to warm anticipations of hot showers and your favorite lotion! Treat yourself with the anti-aging effects of using moisturizing body lotion daily! It only takes seconds, and the enjoyment lasts the whole day through! I can assure you, it will make your day that much brighter!

How can so much enjoyment come out of a 245mL product? Well, it's not the product, but the self-confidence that taking some time for yourself gives you!

Happy Indulging!

“Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.” (Psalms 89:15-16)

Day 1: Hot Cocoa and Christmas Mugs!

Hot Cocoa and Christmas Mugs
There's almost two daily photos put into one today! During the cold winter months, there's nothing like a hot drink to soothe your body! A hot chocolate drink that is!  "A substance in chocolate called theobromine triggers the release of endorphins, which are chemicals, produced by the brain, that act like a natural antidepressant and can temporarily relieve the blues." Since I'm not a coffee drinker, hot chocolate is my go-to drink when I'm needing a pick-me-up from being outdoors. There's just something comforting about it! Plus, you can't miss the mini marshmallows on top. I don't know about you, but just the mention of the drink makes me smile inside!  For me, it encompasses all the pleasures and feelings of winter! And it makes me thankful to be indoors!

Every year when my family and I pull out the Christmas decorations, I always look forward to re-stocking our cupboards with all our Christmas mugs. The mug in this picture, happens to be my favorite one of all! It was given to me this past Christmas- and I plan to never put it away with all the Christmas decorations! Penguins, as most of you probably know- are one of my favorite animals. They're cute, innocent and just make you feel cuddly! Drinking from Christmas mugs actually put the Christmas spirit in me all over again every time.

Whoever said that stuff wasn't important?! Little things like hot chocolate and Christmas mugs can be sweet daily reminders of our past memories and feelings!

So, next time you think a nasty thought about winter, remember that we can always be thankful for the small comforting things that temporarily take our minds off the cold!
Check in tomorrow to see Day 2 of the 20 Winter Photos!
