The Ministry and Work of the Holy Spirit

2 Approaches to the Holy Spirit:

  • The phenomena approach.

  • The paranoid approach.

1. The Holy spirit baptizes Believers.

Mark 1:7-8, "And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals i am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

2. The Holy spirit indwells Christians at conversion.

John 14:16-17 "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

3. The Holy Spirit enables us to speak for Christ.

Luke 12:11-12, "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

4. The Holy Spirit gives power for ministry and evangelism.

Acts 1:8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

5. The Holy Spirit provides comfort for believers.

Acts 9:31, "Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord."

6. The Holy Spirit empowers holy living.

Romans 8:13, "13For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,"

7. The Holy Spirit will one day renew our fleshly bodies.

Romans 8:11, "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you."
